Dian Fossey's birthday marked by Google doodle

Dian Fossey, the American zoologist who was murdered in Rwanda in 1985 after a long battle to protect mountain gorillas, has been celebrated in a Google doodle.
Fossey, who would have been 82 on Thursday, was born in San Francisco on January 1932 and educated at the University of California.
The doodle features the African mountains and gorillas that featured strongly in her life. Fossey studied mountain gorillas for 18 years and her work and experience contributed to her 1983 book Gorillas in the Mist. The book was made into a film with Sigourney Weaver taking the role of Fossey.
Fossey was inspired to study in Africa by Louis and Mary Leakey. While studying the gorillas, she had a constant battle with poachers, many of whom she helped jail. Some of the gorillas she studied, in particular Digit in 1978, died in trying to protect their relatives from poachers.
Fossey was murdered in her cabin in a mountain reserve in Rwanda; the case remains open.

Google keeps Les Paul doodle for an extra day

New Delhi:  The digital guitar that Google put up on his home page, to celebrate the 96th birthday of the country and jazz guitarist, songwriter and inventor Les Paul, will stay on for another day, Google informed in a Twitter post. Since Google said it is extending the doodle for US users only, users outside the US can continue to strum the Google Doodle guitar, by clicking on the "Go to Google.com" link on the country-specific Google pages. "Due to popular demand, we're leaving the Les Paul doodle up in the US for an extra day. Thanks for jamming with us!," a post on the official Google Twitter account said. The Google doodle in honour of Les Paul is playable by hovering the cursor over the doodle and even by the computer keyboard. Users could also record the their own 30-second track. Kishore Kumar's 85th Birth Anniversary Celebrated With Google Doodle

Google  has paid tribute to the late Kishore Kumar on his 85th birth anniversary, with a doodle. Kumar was one of the greatest artistes to have performed in Indian cinema. He was a great actor, music composer, singer, director, film producer, script writer and a lyricist. Google highlights his versatility through four icons placed in the four corners of the rectangular doodle. These four icons represent acting, direction, script writing and singing. The doodle simply reads "Google" with the letter L replaced by a sketch of Kishore Kumar's face. The doodle looks like a hand-painted film poster common in Bollywood until the 1980s. Kishore Kumar was born on August 4, 1929 as Abhas Kumar Ganguly in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. His elder brother Ashok became a Bollywood actor when Kishore was a child.
